Sarah 素质

Sarah 素质 is an associate professor and chair of the Dance Department at Skidmore 大学. 她 earned her doctorate in physical therapy from Sage Graduate School and a Bachelor of 科学 degree in health and exercise science from Syracuse University.

Her research interests include the effects of dance training on individuals with disabilities and at-risk youth alongside the investigation of injury prevention and man管理部 in collegiate dancers.

素质 was named a Periclean Faculty Leader in 2019 for her work in bringing civic 英格管理部 to the classroom and served as a committee member for the New York State Content Specialty Exam 在跳舞 from 2019-2021.

她 sits on the editorial board of the Journal of Dance Medicine and 科学 and has been published in numerous journals, including Journal of Dance 教育, Journal of Dance Medicine and 科学, Performance Enhancement & 健康, 艺术 & 健康, Medical Problems of the Performing Artist, 体育, The International Journal of Exercise 科学, and Research 在跳舞 教育.

Course Description

Dancing Toward Success: 艺术 教育 for Public Schools 是一个社区-based 学习 course that investigates and decodes the issues surrounding arts education access, funding, and the relationship between arts and 学习. Building on theory learned through readings, class discussion, and guest speakers, students collaborate with the Gloversville Enlarged School District to design 一个舞蹈 education residency in a public elementary school throughout the semester. The course culminates with students putting their plans into action, delivering the residency and sharing the power of art and movement with elementary children in their community.
